BRASSERIE DE L'ABBAYE DU VAL-DIEU - The only non-Trappist brewing abbey in Belgium is a Cistercian Abbaye du Val-Dieu (Valley of God) which dates from 1216. This monastery is near village of Aubel, in the region known for Herve cheese, between the Belgian city of Liege, the Dutch city of Maastricht and the German city of Aachen. The brewery is located on the abbey ground and offers four main products: Val-Dieu Blond 6% abv, Val-Dieu Brown 8% abv, Val-Dieu Triple 9% abv, Val-Dieu Grand Cru 10.5% abv ale. Based on the original recipe perfected centuries ago by the abbey monks. Available in 11.2 fl. oz. bottles and 25.4 fl. oz., Triple and Grand Cru also comes in 6L. Methuselah champagne bottles. All ales are bottle conditioned, unfiltered and unpasteurized. Also available in 20L kegs.
